In an example of one innovation building on another, the Australian Biosecurity CRC for Emerging Infectious Disease (AB-CRC) supported the development and technology transfer of a rapid avian influenza ('bird flu') diagnostic test, which was subsequently crucial in controlling and eradicating equine influenza during Australia's 2007 outbreak. Providing unprecedented national capability for influenza testing, the test was ready when equine influenza hit Australia for the first time. |
