While disappointed by the lack of any mention of the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) Programme in tonight's Federal Budget, the Chief Executive Officer of the CRC Association (CRCA) Mr Michael Hartmann has recognised the enormous impact that the $5 billion Higher Education Endowment Fund will have in contributing to the development of research facilities at Universities.

"These are funds that potentially could be directed by the Universities into the establishment of future CRCs and/or the support of existing partnerships" Mr Hartmann said.

"The focus on science and higher education in tonight's Budget is commendable. The CRCA looks forward to working closely with the Universities and their representative bodies and facilitating ways in which these and future initiatives can assist the CRC Programme to realise it potential" Mr Hartmann concluded.
